Description
Westgate is a house located on Dean Street in Brewood, dated 1723. It is constructed of red brick with stone bands and keys, topped with a clay tile roof and features a brick stack. The building has two storeys and a concealed attic, with a five-window front that includes glazing bar sashes with raised keys. The central entrance consists of an eight-panelled door framed by a moulded architrave, frieze, and cornice with a keystone, along with a fan light featuring radiating glazing bars in a square frame. The central window on the first floor has a raised shaped surround adorned with console scrolls and a mask keystone, and there is a panel below displaying the initials 'B/W/1723'. The eaves are plaster coved, and the gutter is bracketed. To the right of the main house is a 19th-century gabled addition with bay windows supported on metal brackets and a panelled door. Inside, there is an 18th-century staircase with turned balusters, a moulded cornice in the stair hall, and a corner fireplace in the northwest room on the ground floor, featuring a stone surround and a raised keystone decorated with a shell motif. The property is enclosed by a brick wall and gate pillars with stone coping, creating a small forecourt.
