Description

Bradwell Lodge is a house, currently used as a library, dating from the early 19th century. It is built of buff brick with stone dressings and has a Welsh slate roof. The building is two stories high, featuring two bays on the entrance front and three bays on the garden side.

The entrance front showcases a large gabled porch with decorative fretted barge-boards and a round arched opening flanked by grouped pilasters. To the right, a large circular bay forms part of the garden front, which includes a recessed central section with paired windows and a wrought-iron balcony on the first floor, supported by long raking struts. The left-hand section of the circular bay has three windows on each floor, with the central window on the first floor featuring a fretted stone balconette.

A dentilled band runs between the storeys and serves as a cornice below the overhanging eaves. The roof is conical and finished with a ball finial. The right-hand bay projects as a gable, displaying three full-height windows on the ground floor and a stone fretted balconette above, with the upper windows recessed in double embrasures with round arched heads. The eaves are adorned with ornate barge boards. All windows have been renewed within their original openings, complete with gauged brick heads. The building also features cylindrical gable and axial stacks, and the entrance hall has a tiled floor with a cantilevered staircase.
