Description
Bentley Hall Cottage is a house dating from around 1700, located on Uttoxeter Road in Mavesyn Ridware. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar with a plain tile roof and features a central brick chimney stack. The building has a two-cell lobby-entry plan and is oriented east-west, facing south, with a lean-to extension at the rear. It stands two storeys high on a cellar with an offset plinth. The facade includes three windows, which are 20th-century casements, and there is a blocked two-light chamfer mullioned cellar window to the right. The central entrance is a glazed door. The right gable end of the cottage retains a pair of two-light chamfer mullioned cellar windows. Inside, the western room has a large fireplace, while the eastern room has a smaller fireplace, both featuring ovolo-moulded bressumers. The interior also includes ovolo-moulded spine beams and exposed collar and tie beam roof trusses, with raking struts connecting the tie beam to the principal rafters, two pairs of purlins, and curved wind braces.
