Description
This is a 17th-century cottage located on the east side of Schofield Lane in Edingale. The building dates to 1641, as indicated by the inscription "AN DNI 1641" on the tie beam of the north gable. It is timber framed with brick infill, and has a plain tile roof with a brick integral end stack. The cottage follows a single-cell, baffle-entry plan, aligned north-south and facing west. The elevation has two storeys, with three square panels visible below the eaves, featuring straight braces. A boarded door is located on the left-hand side. A 20th-century fixed light window is centrally positioned on the ground floor, with an 18th-century casement window directly above it. A small square window is to the right of centre. Inside, the cottage contains a straight staircase running along the back wall. The ceiling features plain beams and joists, likely dating to the 19th century. The left-hand gable exhibits an exposed queen strut roof truss, incorporating one pair of purlins and a ridge piece.
