Description

Beaudesert Hall Remains are the remnants of a country house that originated in the late 15th century. The core of the building was remodeled and extended around 1600, with further alterations made in the 19th century. The structure was dismantled around 1932. The earlier 15th-century work is constructed from sandstone ashlar, while the later additions are made of red brick with ashlar dressings.

The most significant part of the remains is the south wall of the medieval great hall. This wall features a chamfered plinth and includes three large late 15th-century transomed windows, each with four upper and four lower lights, square heads, and Tudor rere-arches. Between the central and left-hand windows, there is an external chimney stack dating from around 1600. Towards the west end of the wall, there is a Tudor arch doorway from circa 1600, which has an ovolo-moulded surround, a dripstone, and a cyma recta moulded cornice hood. On the inside (north side) of the wall, to the left of the doorway, there is a vertical groove in the stonework that may have supported a screen.

Additionally, there are two more large fragments of the house located to the north of the great hall, both made of brick, one from the 17th century and the other from the 19th century.
