Description

The Church of St Chad is a small sandstone church located in Kynnersley. The medieval nave features 19th-century restored two and three-light windows with plate tracery, along with one straight-headed window on the north side. At the east end of the nave, there is a gabled double bellcote. The south doorway has a pointed chamfered arch. The medieval chancel includes early 14th-century windows; the east window has three lights with reticulated tracery, and there are two-light lancet windows on the north and south sides. A late 19th-century timber-framed gabled south porch is present.

The west tower, built between 1722 and 1723, consists of two stages, featuring a covered cornice beneath the parapet and obelisk pinnacles at the corners. It has round-arched bell openings, a west window, and a south doorway. Inside, the chancel arch is double-chamfered and supported on short shafts with corbels. The nave roof has moulded tie beams, though it appears to have been replaced above that. The chancel roof features moulded collars, arched braces, and queen struts. There is a simple ogee-arched piscina in the south wall of the chancel. The font has a rough round bowl on a Victorian stem, and the church contains Victorian furnishings.

In the churchyard, there are some early 19th-century and later railed tomb chests, as well as 18th-century headstones and a table tomb located to the south of the church.
