Description
The lodges at the south-east entrance of Preston Hospital are a pair of early 19th-century buildings that flank the gateway. They are constructed of brick with stone dressings and consist of small rectangular single-storey structures featuring stone plinths, corner pilasters, and an entablature with blocking courses. The lodges have low-pitched hipped slate roofs. The lodge facing the road has one bay, while the one facing the drive has two bays, including a round-arched central doorway with a fanlight, a moulded stone architrave with a keyblock, and imposts. The sash windows are set in moulded stone architraves with keyblocks. The left-hand (west) lodge features blind windows and doors. The lodges are complemented by flanking curved screen walls made of brick with plain stone coping.
