Description

No. 205 on Waterloo Road is a house that is part of a terrace, built around 1880. It is constructed of brick and has a plain tiled roof. The building is two stories tall with an attic and consists of two bays. The left side features an advanced gable with a panelled and glazed door set in a recessed porch, along with a two-storey canted bay window. The attic has three narrow windows, while the right-hand section includes a canted bay window with paired sash windows above. Decorative terracotta paneling creates a frieze for the bay window and is also found at the apex of the gable. The roof is supported by raking brackets and features a terracotta eaves cornice adorned with sunflower motifs. This house was the residence of the author Arnold Bennett from 1880 to 1888.
