Description
The Former Bethel Chapel, dated 1824 with additions from 1875, is located on the north-east side of Waterloo Road in Burslem, Stoke on Trent. The building is constructed of brick with stuccoed dressings and features plain tiled roofs. It has five bays, with the outer bays advanced, connected by an arcaded single-storey range that includes paired round-arched doorways and outer windows. Above this, there is a triglyph frieze and a moulded cornice. The upper windows have semicircular heads and are linked by a continuous band that forms hoodmoulds. A pediment over the central bays displays an inscription on a tablet that reads "Bethesda Chapel, 1824."
The additional blocks added in 1875 to the left and right feature stuccoed pilasters and a heavy parapet, with central windows set in full-height arched recesses. The side elevations are three storeys high and consist of six bays, with the outer bays emphasized by pilasters. The first storey has sash windows with margin lights, while the other storeys have two-pane sash windows, all with flat-arched heads. A stuccoed cornice runs along the parapet.
