Description

Nos. 184 and 186 on Waterloo Road are a pair of houses built around 1850. They are constructed of brick and topped with a scallop-tiled roof. The buildings are two storeys high and feature a symmetrical six-window arrangement. The outer gables are slightly advanced and have three-light casement windows on the ground floor, with two-light windows above, both adorned with drop-ended hoodmoulds. Each house has a porch at the angle with the main range, which is stuccoed and includes pierced balustrading and two-centred arched part-glazed doors. Above the doors, there is a small window with a hood mould. The central section of the houses has two-light casement windows on each floor, also with drop-ended hoodmoulds, and expressed gables above. The right-hand windows contain small panes, while the left-hand house features early 20th-century stained glass emblems. Part of the fretted barge-boards remains on the left-hand house. The buildings have projecting gable ends and axial stacks with octagonal flues over square bases.
