Description
23 and 24 The Villas are a pair of houses built between 1851 and 1855 by Charles Lynam. They are designed in the Italianate style, featuring stucco over brick with roofs made of pantiles and concrete tiles. The houses are two stories high and have five bays that are symmetrically arranged. The outer bays are advanced gables, each with canted bay windows on the ground floor that have round-arched mullioned lights, and paired mullioned sashes above. There are gabled porches at the angles of the gables and central range, along with triple round-arched mullioned sash windows. A tower is located at the rear of No. 23. The eaves are overhanging, and there are rear stacks. These houses were built as part of a private development for middle-class housing, originally comprising an estate of 24 dwellings.
