Description

17 and 17A The Villas are a pair of houses built between 1851 and 1855 by Charles Lynam. They are designed in the Italianate style, featuring stucco over brick with concrete tiled roofs. The houses are two stories high, with the main elevation comprising three bays. To the left, there is an advanced gable that includes three-light mullioned sash windows. The central bay has a small portico porch supported by columns and an entablature. The right-hand bay features a canted bay window with mullioned sashes. There is also an additional doorway and sash windows on the side elevation, along with a tower at the rear. The design includes overhanging eaves and gable and axial stacks. These houses were part of a private development intended for middle-class housing, which originally included 24 dwellings.
