Description

Whiston Hall is a country house with an attached carriage entrance located at the northeast corner, dating from around 1800, which involved the remodelling of an earlier house. The building is constructed of red brick and sandstone, featuring a plain wooden cornice along the projecting eaves, two rendered axial ridge stacks, and a brick end stack on the left. It has a low-pitched hipped slate roof and stands three storeys tall. The façade has a 1:2:1 window arrangement, with slightly recessed windows in the centre, all of which are glazing bar sashes. The ground floor includes later additions of 3-light bow windows on both the left and right sides. The entrance is located on the right-hand return front and is sheltered by an Ionic porch. There is a pedimented carriage entrance with a segmental arch leading to the courtyard, which is attached to the northeast corner of the house. To the left, there is a mid-19th century two-storey addition. The sandstone walling and the presence of blocked window openings in the left bay indicate the existence of an earlier structure.
