Description
St Mary's Cottage, formerly known as Nos. 3 and 4 St Mary's Place, is a shop that was originally a vicarage, divided into two dwellings. It dates from the late 16th century and features a timber-framed structure raised over a brick basement, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, arranged in a two-unit plan. The timber framing is composed of square panels with close studding and long raking braces in the gable wall. There are outer doorways accessed by steps, one of which is now blocked, and a central oriel bay window with a continuous hood supported by curved brackets at each end. The first floor has a continuous band of casement windows with three- and four-leaded lights, along with three-light casements in two gabled dormers. To the right, there is a narrow door leading to a passage, topped by a moulded wood archway.
