Description
Nos. 37, 38, and 38A on Castle Street in Shrewsbury is a house that has been converted into a bank. It was built in 1723 and features a stucco exterior over brick, with a roof that is not visible behind the parapet. The building stands three storeys tall and has a five-window range. The shop front has been inserted and is flanked by rusticated stone piers, topped with a cornice. Above the shop front, there are 12-pane sash windows, although the glazing bars have been removed from the lower sash. The windows have moulded sills, recessed aprons, and stressed keystones that connect to a string course. The corners of the building feature stressed angle quoins. A cornice with dentilling runs below the parapet and is adorned with ball finials. There are two rainwater heads on the building, both dated 1723. No. 38A was listed on May 30, 1969.
