Description
Windsor Lodge, formerly known as Perche's Mansion, is a house located on Castle Street in Shrewsbury, dated 1581. It features a timber-framed and brick construction with a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and a hall and cross wing plan, characterized by a narrow central hall range and advanced flanking wings. The wings are framed with close studding, with one wing dated on an overhanging tie beam to the gable, displaying the arms of John Perch and the initials IP. The central range was refaced in brick in the later 18th century, featuring a doorway to the right with a six-panelled door in a moulded architrave, and sash windows on each floor. The interior is said to contain original plaster ceilings, a staircase, and wall panelling from around 1750.
