Description
This is a disused cottage located approximately 110 meters south of West Dudston Farmhouse. It dates from the mid-17th century and has undergone later additions and alterations. The cottage features a weatherboarded timber frame with red brick and plaster infill, and the right gable end is made of 18th-century red brick, which includes a large integral stack. The roof is covered with graded slate.
The building has a two-cell plan and one storey with an attic. The ground floor fenestration has been destroyed, but two raking eaves dormers remain, and there is a doorway to the right. Inside, the timber frame is exposed throughout, including the cross-wall, showcasing square and rectangular panels with woven infill and long straight tension braces. The right ground-floor room features a chamfered spine beam with stepped ogee stops and heavy chamfered joists, as well as an inglenook fireplace. The left ground-floor room has an infilled chamfered wooden mullion window on the left wall and an inserted central staircase accessed from the rear. The roof structure consists of a collar and tie beam design in two bays, with V-struts extending from the collar to the left gable end. West Dudston Farmhouse is not included in this listing.
