Description

East Dudston Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse, likely remodelled from an earlier building, with extensions added around the mid-19th century and subsequent alterations. It is constructed of red brick with slate roofs. The early 19th-century house originally comprised three bays, and a slightly projecting gabled wing was added to the left around 1850. The main range is two storeys with a further attic level. It has a 1:3 window arrangement, with mostly 20th-century casement windows under segmental arches. The gabled wing has mid-19th-century cast-iron casements with plain stone wedge lintels. The main range has a central entrance, leading to a four-panel door (with glazed upper panels) and a rectangular barred overlight, all sheltered by a late 19th-century gabled porch with trellised detailing. Integral end stacks are located to the left, and two similar stacks flank the right side, one at the front and one behind the ridge. Mid-19th-century single-storey and two-storey gabled additions extend to the rear, featuring a toothed eaves cornice and a dentilled eaves cornice, respectively. A section of what appears to be a wall post from an earlier building is visible within the back wall of the main range. The interior was not inspected during a resurvey in November 1985, but is thought to be of interest.
