Description

This is a disused cottage located in Whittington, dating from the late 17th century with later additions and alterations. The cottage is timber framed with painted brick infill and a plinth, and it has a roughcast finish on the front and left gable end, topped with a graded slate roof. It is one storey high with an attic and consists of three framed bays. The framing is visible on the back wall and right gable end, featuring square panels with long straight tension braces, along with some later horizontal members and braces.

On the ground floor, there is a horizontal sliding sash window in the center, flanked by late 19th-century gabled eaves dormers, although the windows in these dormers are missing. A 19th-century boarded door is located to the far right, sheltered by a contemporary gabled hood. There is a red brick integral lateral stack situated at the center of the back wall.

Inside, the ground floor is divided into three rooms by timber framed cross walls. The center room features a chamfered cross beam and a 19th-century wooden fireplace surround. The left gable end has ogee-headed surrounds for the windows on both floors. A straight-flight staircase, located to the far right behind a ledged and braced door, leads to the first floor and has plain balusters. The roof structure consists of a single-purlin collar and tie beam design in three bays.
