Description
This is a disused L-shaped cottage located approximately 30 meters south-west of Plas Yolyn. It dates from the mid to late 17th century and has undergone minor later alterations. The cottage is timber framed with red brick infill, which is painted on the front, and it stands on a plinth made of sandstone rubble and brick. The roof is slate-covered.
The building has an L-plan layout, with a longer range extending to the rear on the left side. It is one storey high with an attic. The framing consists of square and rectangular panels, with three panels from the cill to the wall-plate, plus long straight tension braces in the rear range. The left end features a queen-strut truss with V-struts extending from the collar.
On the front, there are 19th-century casement windows in the framing panels on either side of a roughly central doorway, which has a rectangular over-light above it. There is also a hip-roofed hatch above the eaves to the right. A red brick stack is located at the bottom of the roof slope to the rear on the right side.
Inside, the right ground-floor room contains a chamfered cross beam and joists, along with a 19th-century cast-iron range set against the back wall. The rear range features two chamfered cross beams and flat heavy joists on the ground floor, as well as a central truss with raking struts connecting the cambered tie beam to the principal rafters.
