Description

The lodge at Sibdon Castle is a building from the 17th century with alterations made in the 18th century. It is constructed of brick and sandstone rubble, topped with a plain tile roof that features a gable facing the drive and a brick corner stack on the right.

The exterior stands three storeys high and has a single-window range. There is a probable Venetian window that is now blocked, set in a quoined ashlar case with a keyblock. A 19th-century lattice-glazed metal casement is present, along with a brick panel in a circular ashlar architrave that has keyblocks leading to a central stone-tile coped gable. A 19th-century metal lattice-glazed light is found in a brick-blocked former entrance, which also has a quoined ashlar case with a keyblock and brick pilasters on the first floor.

On the left side, which is returned, the wall is made of rubble and features a 19th-century, two-light lattice-glazed metal casement above a similar three-light casement, both set under stone segmental arches. There is a 20th-century porch to the left that covers a painted rendered doorcase with a cambered head, and a stone-tile coped parapet is present. The right side, also returned, is made of rubble and includes a square recess on the first floor, along with a stone-tile coped parapet. The rear of the lodge has a 20th-century brick extension behind a rubble screen wall, topped with a stone-tile coped central gable.

Inside, the lodge features convex chamfered spine beams and a dog-leg staircase with splat balusters. It is believed to have originally been built as a dovecote.
