Description
The Church of St Michael is a parish church located in Sibdon Carwood, built in 1741 with a tower added around 1800. It was restored and extended in 1872. The church features a nave, chancel, and west tower, constructed from ashlar sandstone on a rubble plinth, topped with a Welsh slate roof.
On the north front, there are one and two-light lancets with traceried heads set in square-headed cases, along with a moulded eaves cornice. The south front has similar lancets and a 20th-century restored cornice. The 19th-century chancel also includes single-light lancets. The slender porch-tower has tiers of two small chamfered openings, a returned moulded string course on each face, gargoyles, a moulded band, and a castellated parapet adorned with quatrefoil roundels. It features a weather-vane with a flying archangel, a chamfered pointed arch, alcoves, and 19th-century plank doors with a chamfered arch.
Inside, there is 19th and 20th-century glass and a bronze tablet commemorating EH Gilchrist de Castro, who died in 1919.
