Description

Number 17 is a house dating from around 1820, constructed of stuccoed coursed limestone rubble and topped with a hipped slate roof. It has a basement and three storeys, featuring deep eaves and brick end stacks on both sides. The building has two windows on the first and second floors, which are 16-pane glazing bar sashes, although the left one is blind. On the ground floor, there is a 16-pane glazing bar sash window to the right and a central door with eight raised and fielded panels, along with deep three-panelled reveals where the bottom panels are flush. Above the door is a three-part rectangular overlight, and the doorcase is adorned with attenuated Greek Doric half-columns that support a narrow frieze with fretted decoration and a moulded cornice. The left-hand return front has one bay with 16-pane glazing bar sashes.

Inside, there is an early 19th-century staircase that rises through both floors, featuring three flights per storey around a square well, with turned balusters (some of which have been replaced) and square, moulded newel posts.

Adjoining to the west is an outbuilding made of coursed limestone rubble, also with slate roofs. This outbuilding has two storeys arranged in two blocks, which step down the slope to the right. The left-hand block features three blind windows on the first floor and a ground floor segmental-headed boarded door to the left.
