Description
The obelisk milestone, located approximately 10 metres to the east of the Bell Inn, is a notable structure that is reputedly based on a medieval wayside cross. It features a sandstone construction with a square base that has two steps, supporting a tapered square obelisk above. The obelisk is inscribed with directions and distances: to the east, it reads "Brewood/6/Lichfield/21"; to the south, "Albrighton/10/LONDON/134"; to the west, "Shifnal/3/Salop/21"; and to the north, "Newport/8/Chester/49". This milestone is believed to incorporate part of, or be situated on the site of, a medieval wayside cross.
