Description

Willowbrook Cottage is a farmhouse, now a house, dating to the mid-17th century. The house has undergone partial re-facing with brick and stone in the 18th century, and further additions in the 19th. It is constructed with timber framing, a stone plinth, red brick nogging, and partial brick and regular coursed stone re-facing. The roof is covered in old tiles. The building follows an L-shaped plan, comprising three framed bays. It has one-and-a-half storeys and features timber framing with square panels and straight braces. An exposed queen post truss is visible in the East section. Four gabled eaves dormers are present – two to the West, one to the East, and one to the South – all with two-light casement windows. There are end stacks on the East and South sides, alongside a ridge stack offset to the North. The West front features a three-window arrangement. Modern two-light casement windows flank a modern two-light casement in a blocked segmental-headed doorway, with further modern French casements. A half-glazed modern door is located to the left. A 19th-century block is situated in the angle of the ‘L’ and contains the current main entrance.
