Description

Tong Hall is a house dating from around 1840, with later 19th-century and 20th-century additions to the left. It is constructed of red brick with grey and gault brick dressings, and is in a Neo-Gothic style. The house is two storeys high.

The front has an interrupted dentil brick string course, parapeted gables with dentil bricks to the stone coping, and an end stack to the right, as well as a stack at the rear. The front facade features two windows with segmental-headed, leaded cross windows. Above is a gable with a recessed octagonal panel. The right-hand end elevation has two blind, pointed-arched windows with Y-tracery on the first floor, with a continuous cill string. A three-light 20th-century casement window has been inserted to the right, and there are two gabled ends above. The ground floor has a window to the right with a painted keyed lintel and a four-trefoil panelled door to its right, also with a painted keyed lintel. A late 19th-century block is set back to the north with two gabled semi-dormers and two ground floor 20th-century leaded casements. A 20th-century addition is situated to the left, featuring a parapet.

The building shares stylistic similarities with other unusual structures built on the Tong Estate by George Durant the younger (died 1844), including the Fowl House west of Vauxhall Farmhouse and the Cow House north of Acorn Cottage.

The hall is included in the list because of its historical associations and group value.
