Description
Pen-y-Llan Hall is a villa built around 1830-1840, with later additions and alterations. It features stuccoed brick on an ashlar plinth and has hipped slate roofs with wide eaves supported by stone corbelled brackets, along with yellow brick and rendered ridge and end stacks. Designed in the Italianate villa style, the building is two storeys high and includes a cill band and a moulded floor band below. The main front has a layout of 2:3:2 bays, with a central section that projects and has an open-pedimented break. It features glazing bar sashes and tall narrow sash windows flanking the central window of the pediment on both floors, with a lunette window above.
There is a flat-roofed entrance porch at the angle with a slightly projecting garden range to the right, which has a segmental-headed outer arch with a projecting keystone, a pilastered door surround, and decorated brackets supporting a flat hood. The right return, or garden front, has a layout of 3:1:1 bays, with sash windows in moulded architraves to the left and a pediment to the right, featuring a segmental-headed tripartite sash window on the ground floor. The left gable end of this front has a round-arched recess with pointed vermiculated voussoirs and a projecting keystone at the base of the external stack.
