Outbuilding Approximately 15 Metres South Of Wootton Castle

This outbuilding, located approximately 15 metres south of Wootton Castle, is likely a former part of a threshing barn. It dates from the mid-17th century and has undergone later alterations. The structure is timber framed with plaster and brick infill and features a corrugated iron roof. It has two levels and consists of one framed bay, with the framing made up of square panels, three of which extend from the cill to the wall-plate, supported by a short straight tension brace. The right gable end has been rebuilt in red brick. Inside, the left gable end shows a tie beam truss with long raking struts that support the principal rafter. The outbuilding is aligned directly with the south gable end of Wootton Castle, to which it was probably once attached. It is included for its group value.
