Description

The Old Shop is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 17th century and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from uncoursed limestone rubble, with some brick at the rear and plaster on the south and west gable ends, topped with a machine tile roof. The layout is T-shaped, featuring a three-bay range that runs north-south and a single-bay projection to the west. It has one storey and an attic, with the central projection being one window deep, flanked by one window on the right and a blank wall on the left. There are gabled dormers on the south and west, and all windows are 20th-century casements. A prominent stack with a red brick capping is located on the west gable end projection, and there are modern doors on the south and west sides. At the rear, there is a 19th-century catslide outshut that includes a bread oven. To the west, there is a lower projecting single-storeyed range that was formerly a cowhouse, featuring three windows and a roughly central door. Inside, the most notable feature is the inglenook fireplace with a chamfered lintel. The ground floor rooms on the south and west sides have chamfered beams and exposed square panelling on the cross wall, while the roof is constructed with Queen struts. It is important to note that the previous listing description mistakenly referred to this building as Snead Farmhouse.
