Description

No. 25 High Street is a house that has been converted into a bank, dated 1753 as indicated by the rainwater head. The ground floor underwent alterations in the early 20th century and around 1950. The building is constructed of red brick with painted stone dressings and features a roof covered with 20th-century concrete tiles. It stands three storeys tall and has chamfered quoins, a frieze, a moulded cornice, and a parapet with coping. There are integral brick end stacks.

The building has four bays with glazing bar sashes, although the first-floor windows are 20th-century imitations. These windows have painted stone cills and lintels that are rusticated with raised keystones topped with moulding. The ground floor, altered around 1950, includes a plate-glass window and a pair of panelled doors to the right. To the left, there is a cast square-section rainwater head with a festoon and moulded top, along with a cast square-section downpipe. The rainwater head and downpipe were previously located in the centre of the facade, as indicated by a mark on the brickwork.

Inside, the building has been altered in the early 20th century to feature a two-storey banking hall with a frieze, a moulded cornice, and a central beam with two round arches above.
