Description
No. 8 Lendal is a house that has been converted into a bank and offices. It was built around 1840 and incorporates parts of a 17th-century house. The building has undergone modernisation and alterations, including a new shopfront.
The front is made of orange-grey mottled brick laid in Flemish bond, while the right side at ground level features rusticated red brickwork on a chamfered stone plinth. The first floor is constructed of red brick in random bond, and the second floor matches the front in stretcher bond. The roof is slate, hipped at the front and gabled at the rear, adorned with wrought-iron corner scrolls.
The exterior is three stories high with a one-window front. The shopfront is pilastered with plate glass windows that extend to the right. On the first floor, there is a three-light canted bay window with a central segment-headed four-pane sash flanked by two-pane sashes, all beneath a dentilled cornice. The second floor has two four-pane sash windows with painted stone sills. The rear of the building is gabled and features 20th-century two-light windows on each visible floor. The interior has not been inspected.
