Description
4A and 4B Lendal are offices built in the early 18th century and mid 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The rear is constructed of 18th century orange-red brick in stretcher bond, while the rest features orange-grey brick in random bond, accented with orange brick dressings. The building has a timber doorcase and a hipped slate roof that slopes towards the river, topped with a brick stack.
The front of the building has six bays and stands at one, two, and three storeys high. The three-storey section features a pedimented doorcase with a door made of six raised and fielded panels. The two-storey section has steps leading up to a four-panel door set within a segmental arch. The windows are four-pane sashes with segmental arches. The river-facing side has three storeys and three windows, along with a one-storey pent extension that has a brick dentil cornice at the ground floor. The windows on this side are similar to those on the main front, except for one 12-pane sash located at the right end of the extension.
The rear of the building has three storeys and six bays, featuring a raised stepped brick band at the first floor. The interior was not inspected. No. 4B includes part of No. 10 Lendal and is included for group value as part of a significant group of buildings on Lendal.
