Description
This is a dovecote located approximately 20 metres to the north-east of the chancel of the Church of St Peter, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of red brick with grey sandstone ashlar dressings and features a pyramidal plain tile roof. The dovecote has an octagonal plan and stands two storeys high. It has a dentil brick eaves cornice and an octagonal wooden glover with shaped-headed openings, topped with a pyramidal lead cap, although the finial was missing at the time of the survey in March 1985. The south front includes a segmental-headed window on the first floor with a triple keystone, and a round-arched boarded doorway that has hinge and lock blocks, impost blocks, and a triple keystone. Inside, there are nesting boxes built into the walls.
