Description
No. 40 High Street is a shop that has been converted into a house, dating from the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The front is made of painted rendered brick, featuring a plinth and a dentil brick course at the eaves, while the rear is constructed from stone rubble. The roof is covered with interlocking tiles and has a central brick chimney stack positioned behind the ridge.
The building is two stories high with an attic and has a four-window range consisting of 20th-century multi-pane windows, with two located on the ground floor. There is a plain boarded door beneath a cambered head leading to a covered way on the left side. To the right, there is a 20th-century box bay window and a boarded door, both situated under a tiled pentice roof. The building features two gabled dormers that were rebuilt in the 20th century.
The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value with other nearby structures.
