Description
44 and 45 High Street is a house that has been converted into a pair of shops with flats above. It dates back to the 17th century, with a shop front added in the 19th century. The building is made of painted brick and features a dentil course at the eaves, along with a plain-tile roof and an integral gable-end stack. It has a rectangular plan that runs parallel to the street.
The exterior consists of a single storey with an attic. No. 45, on the left, has a projecting canted double-fronted late 19th-century shop front, which includes a fascia and blind box above, as well as a partly glazed and panelled central shop door. No. 44, on the right, features a projecting 20th-century shop window. Each unit has a gabled semi-dormer; the left side has a 19th-century sash window, while the right side has a 20th-century window.
Inside, there are chamfered lateral first-floor bridging beams with ogee chamfer stops.
