Description
29 High Street is a hotel that underwent 19th-century remodeling, likely incorporating a 17th-century core. The building features a timber frame that is fronted by painted render designed to imitate patterned framing, topped with a plain tiled roof and an off-centre brick ridge stack. The structure has a plan consisting of four framed bays along the street and an extensive rear wing.
The exterior is two stories with an attic. The south front displays five 2/2 19th-century sash windows at the first-floor level. There is a 19th-century pilastered open porch flanked by projecting window bays, all of which extend under a first-floor balcony with cast-iron railings. A covered carriageway is located on the right-hand side. The attic features four gables, each with one 2/2 sash window. At the rear, there is a 20th-century casement window above the carriageway to the left, while the rest of the rear is covered by 20th-century painted render and brick gabled extension ranges.
Inside, the hotel includes twin deep-chamfered lateral bridging beams with stepped convex stops.
