Description

The mounting block in front of the Talbot Hotel is a stone structure that likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It features a flat slab set on a plinth, with a flight of three stone steps on each side. Currently, it serves as the base for a sign post for the Talbot Hotel. There is a historical tradition suggesting that the body of Prince Arthur, the eldest son of Henry VII and first husband of Katherine of Aragon, was laid on this block when it was transported from Ludlow to Worcester Cathedral in 1502, although it is uncertain if the block is actually from that time.
