Description
27 Bull Ring is a former house, now a shop, dating from the 15th century. It features a timber-frame and plaster construction with a plain tile gable roof. The building is two stories high and has a one-window range. Notable architectural elements include a restored canted oriel window with timber mullions, leaded lights, and cast side-casements set on an original bressummer supported by simple consoles, along with close studding and a restored gable.
To the left, there is a 20th-century shopfront that includes a recessed door under a porch, plate glass windows with a leaded clerestory, and enriched consoles. A stop-chamfered plate over the porch extends to the right, leading over a passage to the rear, which features a chamfered timber lintel. Inside the passage, box framing is visible on both sides with mostly brick infill, along with massive chamfered ceiling beams and wall posts. The rear section of the building has smaller scantling.
The rear elevation includes a metal casement window over the passage and weather boarding. There is also a two-story wing made of timber framing with brick infill and a plain tile roof, featuring two gables facing the passage, a brick end stack, and metal lights with old glass. Additional 19th and 20th-century ranges are present.
