Description
This barn, located approximately 20 meters northwest of Ifton Hall Farmhouse, dates from the mid-19th century and incorporates a cruck truss from the 14th or 15th century. It is constructed of rendered red brick and rubblestone, topped with a corrugated iron roof. The barn has two levels, featuring four eaves hatches—two on the left and two on the right. There are three segmental-headed doorways on the right side and narrow rectangular air vents on the left. A 20th-century entrance is present at the left gable end.
Inside, the first three bays on the left are open to the roof, with a 19th-century king-post truss situated between the first and second bays. Between the second and third bays, there is a crudely chamfered arch-braced true cruck truss with a yoke and Alcock apex-type B. Notably, the cruck truss shows no signs of smoke blackening, indicating it has likely always been part of an agricultural building. The barn is included for its group value.
