Description

This former farmhouse, now used as a farm building, is located approximately 120 metres southeast of Lower Hodre. It likely dates from the 14th or 15th century, with a refacing that occurred in the mid-to-late 19th century. The building features a timber frame constructed in cruck style, with weatherboarding and corrugated iron cladding on the south and east sides, and a coursed limestone rubble plinth with rebuilt walls on the north and west. The roof is made of corrugated iron.

The structure consists of three framed bays arranged in a north-south orientation and is one storey high with an attic. The west front includes a raking eaves-dormer on the right and a small ground floor window on the left, with the entrance located in the left-hand gable end. There are two agricultural openings on the east side, one of which has a boarded door.

Inside, there are two full cruck trusses with a square panelled cross wall featuring lath and plaster infill panels, tie-beams, and canted collars, along with some smoke blackening. The ground floor rooms have pairs of stop-chamfered spine beams and plain joists. There is a truncated integral end stack on the north side, which was originally external but has since been encased, as indicated by a straight joint in the masonry. This stack includes a large open fireplace and a bread oven. A dog-leg staircase is located to the west, and the floor is stone-flagged.
