Description

Coed-yr-hendre Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the 14th or 15th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 16th century and mid-to-late 19th century. It features a timber frame of cruck construction, which has been refaced and partly rebuilt using painted or limewashed coursed limestone rubble, topped with a slate roof. The building consists of a three-room baffle-entry layout with three or four framed bays, oriented southwest to northeast, and is thought to be a former hall house.

The farmhouse stands two storeys tall and has painted stone integral end stacks along with a central ridge stack positioned above the entrance door. The front has four windows, which include three and four light casements made of metal and wood from the 19th and mid-20th centuries. There are large 16th-century gabled wings that project to the right and off-centre to the left; these were formerly jettied but were underbuilt in the 19th century. The left wing features a moulded bressumer and close-studded framing with a centre rail, while the right wing has a chamfered bressumer and square-panelled framing, both with rendered gable ends. A boarded door is located between the wings, which is sheltered by an open lean-to porch. At the rear, there is a 19th-century wing with a central ridge stack.

Inside, the farmhouse contains at least two full cruck trusses, ceilings with chamfered cross-beams, timber-framed cross-walls, and a staircase from the 16th or 17th century that bifurcates from the landing at the top.
