Description
The Phillips memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 1 metre north of the vestry of the Church of St. Simon and St. Jude, dating from around 1838. It is made of limestone and features a rectangular shape with tapering ends. The tomb has a moulded capping and plinth, which is supported by ball feet at the corners on a stone base. Fluted corner piers and a chamfered top ledger with a broken finial add to its design. There is cable moulding around the moulded inscription panels, with the north side commemorating Nathaniel Phillips, who died in 1842, and the south side commemorating his wife, Mary, who died in 1838. Carved floral emblems are present at the ends of the tomb.
