Description

The Phillips memorial is a chest tomb located about 30 metres north-west of the west tower of the Church of St Mary. It commemorates John Phillips, who died in 1797. The tomb is made of ashlar and features bold corner balusters, a raised and fielded inscription panel, a moulded cornice, and a flat top. The inscription reads: "To the Memory of John Phillips/ of the Town of Hay Inn - Holder/ who departed this Life June 7th 1797/ Aged 59 Years." This memorial is a good example of stone masonry and enhances the setting of the church, contributing to the group value of the other memorials in the churchyard.
