2/38 Philips memorial about 20 metres north of north porch of Church of St Mary

GV II

Chest tomb. John Philips, died 1784. Ashlar. Ends incised to resemble small ashlar blocks, returned as pilasters, inscription panel framed by similar decoration. Inscription: "[In] Memory of John Philips/ late of Wye-Side in Clifford/ who died ye 12th day of July 1784/ in the 74th Year of his Age/ [ 4 more lines ]". This is a good example of stone masonry and enhances the setting of the church; it contributes to the group value of the other memorials in the churchyard.
