Description
The monument to John Phillips is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 8 metres south of the priest's door to the chancel of the Church of St Mary Magdalen. It dates from the late 17th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a thick flat top with a chamfered edge, square quarter balusters, and panels with sunk margins on the north and south sides. The base is chamfered and was partly sunk at the time of the survey in November 1983. The south side of the tomb has some well-executed sharp-cut lettering commemorating John Phillips, who died in 1793.
