Description
This milestone, located approximately 30 metres southeast of the junction between Holyhead Road and Well Lane in Nesscliffe, was erected between 1826 and 1827 by engineer Thomas Telford. It is made of tooled limestone and features a shallow-pitched top with chamfered corners. The milestone has a cast-iron plate displaying superscribed serif lettering that reads: "HOLY-/HEAD /98-M/ SALOP / 8M - 6F". This milestone is part of a series along the A5 (Holyhead Road), which Telford improved in the years following 1817.
