Description

This milestone, located approximately 125 metres south of Forton Cottage, was erected between 1826 and 1827 by the engineer Thomas Telford. It is made of tooled limestone and features a shallow-pointed top with chamfered corners. The milestone has a cast-iron plate with serif lettering that reads: "HOLY-/HEAD / 102-M /SALOP 4M - 6F". This milestone is part of a series along the A5 (Holyhead Road), which Telford improved in the years following 1817. Forton Cottage is not included in this listing.
