Description

Bicton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1700, with changes made in the late 18th century and some alterations in the late 20th century. It is constructed of rendered brick and has a hipped plain tile roof, forming an L-plan structure. The building stands two storeys tall with an attic over a basement. It features a plinth, a plat band, and deep eaves, along with a pair of brick stacks on the return ridges. The facade has three bays with glazing bar sash windows that have chamfered 19th-century brick cills and segmental heads. The outer first-floor windows are painted to imitate sashes. There are segmental-headed two-light basement casements on the left and right sides. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed door framed in pegged oak, with a two-part rectangular overlight above, a segmental relieving arch, and a flat hood supported by two large shaped brackets. The right-hand return front has one bay, while the left-hand return front has two bays. Although the interior has not been inspected, there is a noted 18th-century L-plan oak staircase that rises to the attic, featuring half landings, a closed string, turned balusters, a moulded handrail, and panelled square newel posts with moulded caps and plain pendants. Additionally, there is a two-panelled door from around 1700 located on the left-hand wall of the staircase hall.
