Description

The Red House is an early 19th-century house constructed of red brick with a slate roof. It is a two-story building with a two-story, attic rear wing, forming an L-shaped plan. The east front features a plinth, a painted eaves band, and integral brick end stacks. It has three bays with glazing-bar sashes (16 panes on the ground floor), painted stone cills, and gauged-brick heads. The central entrance features a six-panelled door, with the upper four panels raised and fielded and the lower two beaded and flush, above a three-part rectangular overlight. The door has panelled reveals, a soffit, and a doorcase with panelled pilasters, a frieze, and reeded consoles supporting a cornice. A porch and stair tower are located in the angle of the wing at the rear, featuring a hipped roof and a round-arched opening.

The interior was not inspected, but noted fixtures include an L-shaped staircase with stick balusters and a swept handrail, along with panelled internal window shutters.
