Description

Beckjay Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early to mid-18th century, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a plain tile roof with raised verges and brick integral end stacks. The main house is aligned east-west and faces south, with an extension to the west on the same alignment and two rear wings aligned north-south. The building has two storeys and an attic, with storey bands. There are four windows with 20th-century casements set within 18th-century openings that have segmental heads. The ground floor includes two late 19th-century bay windows with hipped slate roofs. A central 20th-century latticed porch provides access to a 20th-century door within an 18th-century opening. To the left, there is a low brick extension featuring a right-hand 20th-century casement and a left-hand door. At the rear, there are two gabled kitchen wings; the right-hand wing is early 19th-century and made of coursed limestone rubble, while the left-hand wing is late 19th-century and constructed of red brick. Inside, there is an early to mid-18th-century newel staircase with a closed string and turned balusters that incorporate square knots, along with jointed and pegged king-post roof trusses.
